MATERIA (2023)

Art is a transformation, a passage from one state to another, a continuous metamorphosis. This project explores the different transformations of matter, embodying each process in a living, dynamic work of art. In this audiovisual performance, generative visuals and sound design are synchronized in order to express the passage of one state to another, embodying the essence of perpetual change.

The experience go through the four fundamental states of matter - solid, liquid, gas and plasma. The real time audiovisual performance navigates through the complex transformations of matter, showcasing each evolution as a generative and evolving form of artistic expression.

  • In this performance, I used generative sound techniques to manipulate the musical composition in real-time, with each state of matter having its own sonic signature inspired by the behavior of sound waves in different media (solids, liquids, gases, and plasmas). For instance, in the gas phase, granular synthesis created fragmented, unpredictable soundscapes, emulating chaotic gas molecule movement. The visuals are crafted using real time generative software, with visual organic forms directly linked to sound parameters for seamless synchronization. Sharp, geometric visuals represented the solid state, while organic, flowing forms depicted liquids, all evolving in real-time immersing the audience in the transformation process.

This project focuses on art and science, translating concepts of matter into sensory experiences, aiming to represent scientific principles while transmitting emotional and intellectual engagement. Materia reflects the continuous cycles of transformation in nature, exploring the shifts in matter through a poetic lens. By syncing visuals and sound, the performance invites audiences to experience these transitions as intricate, sensory phenomena, highlighting the beauty of natural processes.
